Ling Jiao Station, Ping Si Branch

Ling Jiao is a small quiet town without too many visitors. However, there are many worth-to-visit spots, such as, old bridge, ancient houses, waterfall, as well as the coal mining field and suspension bridge...etc. They are all located around the train station with walking distance. Ride on Ping Si branch train; you can also visit this lovely mini station in Ling Jiao between trains.

Ling Jiao village is at the foot of a mountain. It was also named “Ling Zai Jiao” by the local residents. During the past peak mining time, Ling Jiao was the place for the coal transportation. Due to the out-flux of local population, the mining history is no longer reappearing. Ling Jiao station has become a no-host station.

Ling Jiao station is a very simple and small square station. Because it is a no-host station, the door and windows are all locked.

The platform is an arc platform which is rarely seen. The curve tracks look very unique.

An iron bridge crossing Keelung River near the station toward to Ching Tong direction, visitors can capture the images easily for the train entering the bridge with its camera.

The main street of Ling Jiao used to be a trolley pathway. Two trolleys are placed near the station for visitor’s nostalgia.

The building behind the trolleys was the coal washing field.

After passing the coal washing field, next to the community playground, the old coal trolley and the reaming of the suspension bridge are there. It is remarkable to see the Ling Jiao old mining culture in such a close distance.

Near the trolley path, a small “Land God Temple” is there. This small temple is about hundreds year old.

Near the “Land God Temple”, a two-story ancient looking red brick house is there. This house used to be the mining leader’s residence. It was also the business office.

This “Tasi ancient house” is empty now. Many TV show producers shot the elegant and beautiful exterior for the TV drama series.

I was astonished by this old bridge. It is covered with moss and full of the evidence of old history.

A small pond waterfall is under the bridge. There is another one above. Along with these two, the Ling Jiao waterfall was named “San Die Pu Tan” (Three pond waterfalls)

Potholes can be seen in the pond waterfall.

This photo was taken from a concrete bridge overlooking the old bridge.

Just a minute away from the train station, the second largest waterfall of Ping Si Town can be seen- Ling Jiao Waterfall. It was a privately owned scenery area. However, due to the poor management, it has been neglected since then.

Although this area has been neglected, the thriving life is still there. I was impressed with all the rampant green.

The waterfall is hiding behind the man made rock hole. Everywhere is covered with moss, so be careful while walking here.

Ling Jiao waterfall is about 11 meter tall. During the raining season, the width of the waterfall can be more than 40 meters.

The old bridge, ancient house, waterfall as well as the coal washing field and the remainder of the old bridge are all within walking distance from the train station. Come to visit this lovely and mini Ling Jiao station between trains in Ping Si Branch.

Love these waterfalls!

The first scenery is so picturesque. Taiwan is an interesting place, looks like it has a bit of everything: mountains, "jungle", history...

I'm also thinking the very same thing..."Is that your dog?" It follows you from the platform to the waterfall. LOL!

Interesting potholes formation + beautiful waterfalls!!! Nice place for skinny dip :)

Cheers!

To Fufu and Mylo- Ha! You guys found "Mango":) That is Kristen's beautiful Golden Retriever! Her name is "Mango". She is a well disciplined dog. I let her to come along when I visited Ling Jiao~~

小小的一個島嶼,可看可玩的,很多呢!(Let me know if you need any helps in reading these characters~~)

Golden Retrievers are the most popular breed in the UK!
Is it the same in Taiwan?!

Interesting! Where are there so many potholes in Taiwan?
Were they formed naturally or man-made?

I like the old bridge too! Moss is one of my favourite subjects!
I also like to photograph lichen, especially in graveyards!!! Ha ha...

Re: The most beautiful bridge in Paris / 巴黎最美丽的桥 / Jambatan yang tercantik di Paris / パリの一番綺麗な橋

How could you miss it?!
Did you walk along the river?
It's one of the most romantic things to do in Paris. ;)

Thanks for the extra info about Mango. When I was a kiddo, my pop brought back a Golden Retriever. I named it Lucky. But dad gave it away. Mom was complaining non-stop about allergy and others. I missed Lucky and his bushy tail :)

Cheers!

Thanks Rafael!

To Londoncaller- Yes, golden retriever is very popular in Taiwan, same as Labrador.
There are so many potholes along the Keelung River, and we can see the largest potholes landscape along the Ping Si Branch. Potholes are naturally formed.

Is that the bridge next to the La Conciergerie? That was the only bridge I went in Paris, and I don’t remember the name of that bridge.

To Mylo- Your "lucky" reminds me my little “Xiaomi”. My mom and I found this puppy on the street. We named it “ Xiaomi”. He was probably only one month old. I was in the elementary school. We had “ Xiaomi” for only 3 days, then we had to give it away, because my dad complained it. I cried so long because of that. ~Kristen

aw.... i think it's sweet that you bring Mango along 'wandering taiwan'. like the wide waterfalls.. looks very quiet though.. is it frequented by locals?

kristen and micki said...

Thanks! Lechua, most of the tourists go to Ching Tong, Shi Feng, and Ping Si. Ling Jiao is a place that has fewer tourists which make it very quiet.

Hi,
I was surfing for Pingsi railway and found your blog. May I know how far is the waterfall from the train station?

kristen and micki said...

Hi, Blessed Homemaker, sorry for replying you a bit late, since I was out of town.
The waterfall is near the train station with less than one minute walking distance along the railway track. After the entrance of the waterfall, with a few steps down you will see the waterfall.
